Chris pulled his hand from hers and hung back. "I don't think so, D.J."
She spun toward him, fury on her face, and snatched at his hand again. When he refused to move she let out a groan of irritation. "McCall, those guys meant to kill you. That means whoever's been trying to kill you knows where we are. Maybe it's one of them, or maybe they were sent by that person. Either way, I want to go back to the hotel and get the locals over here to lock them up."
"Why not question them now? You've got a gun. I bet we can make them tell us what we want to know."
D.J. smacked her palm to her forehead. "Jeez, McCall, why didn't I think of that? Let's rough 'em up. They'll sing like canaries." She shook her head in disgust. "You've been watching too many Bogey movies. Did you ever hear of Miranda? The right to a lawyer? The Fifth Amendment? You can bet those guys have. They won't tell us one damn thing." She swept her arm in a circle, indicating the stores around them. "This might not look like much now, McCall, but pretty soon this area will get a whole lot busier. Do you want to explain to the concerned citizens of Outgamie why we're questioning suspects in the middle of the highway? I certainly don't. And, a final point for thought: This is not my jurisdiction. I'm not taking any chances of violating
